First cathedral of the Armenian Apostolic Church to be consecrated in North America
When standing outside in its plaza, there is a view of both the iconic Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building. There are at two beautiful sculptures (one by R. Nakian and one by M. Aram), as well as a memorial pillar in honor of martyrs of the first genocide of the 20th Century. The outside doors of the church tell allegorical biblical stories. Upon entering the church, modern architecture meets tradition.
Nothing should be changed. Most importantly, no part of it, including its air rights, should be changed. This entire complex is a symbol of the resilience and courage of Armenians who have immigrated to America for over 105 years.
