The main branch of the Brooklyn Public Library is an imposing Modern Classical structure whose design is meant to evoke an open book. Constructed between 1935-1941, the Central Building is a major reference and lending library and a designated New York City landmark. The Library is also home to “the Brooklyn Collection,” a special archive focusing on the history, publications, ephemera and photographs of this famous borough.
