A community garden for over two decades
Pacific Street Bears Community Garden
Founded in 1983, the battle to save this neighborhood oasis (which was plowed in 1997, then re-created in 1998) became a catalyst for garden preservation efforts citywide. It remains an oasis in a very urban intersection, and a constant reminder, to those who supported its preservation, that our voices can be heard.
Where else can you get in touch with nature and admire the diversity of the New York City human community in a boom box-free, trash-free environment?
